East Meets West

Stand by for East Meets West, Shanghai. Phase 1 took place in Malta in June 2006, and attracted 40 of the world’s healthcare and business leaders. The huge success of the Steering Group is the driving force of an industry event that will truly represent a meeting of East and West healthcare and the many and varied opportunities for business and partnership.

Uniting Leading Health Care Providers around the World
East Meets West,is the second phase conference for leaders in healthcare, assistance, insurance, cost containment and much more. The conference is a strategic business event: a platform, a forum and a focal point in the health care network and associated insurance, assistance, cost containment, PPO and provider sectors.East Meets West is set to promote development in the healthcare market through informative debate and events aimed at fostering and stimulating cohesive business communication and strategic relationships. From the publisher of Healthcare International, the journal that continues to build upon its reputation as the forum for cohesive communication between healthcare providers worldwide, East Meets West is set to be the event that brings together key healthcare providers from all corners of the Earth, from a wide variety of healthcare services. East Meets West is a three day event that sets a packed and far reaching agenda, providing an interactive platform for those organisations that provide travel and medical insurance, assistance, health care provision as well as those companies that provide the technical and financial support to contribute, debate and interact with peers and potential partners.

Phase 1, Malta, was held in June 2006.The three day event was an introduction to East Meets West, and attracted 40 of the world’s leaders in healthcare and associated businesses. The Far East was the focus of the event, where there are many success stories in healthcare. It has been widely identified and acknowledged that China is the fastest growing economy, but does it mean that it holds an achievable market in terms of business?

Very quickly, delegates agreed that it was important to understand that was is not just the West looking at the East, it is also the East demonstrating interest in the West. This was a positive position from which to commence the Steering Group, with that understanding and mindset providing a symbiotic approach to achieving the objective of East Meets West.

The objective of the Steering Group was to begin a process to delivering an event which represented the global healthcare market and to optimize business opportunities and potential. The Steering Group was split into four areas for debate. The first session consisted of an impossible ideal which required all delegates to try to build the perfect healthcare system in the emerging market represented by China. The second session dealt with Regulation issues in the Chinese healthcare market. The third session covered new technology, and the fourth session comprised a debate around medical tourism. Delegates widely accepted that such a project was not the sole responsibility of government although it would evolve as a key political drive. Equally, it is incumbent upon businesses to develop their own markets, choose and forge business partnerships, and set the parameters, standards and legislation necessary to achieve business objectives. Time and again, the importance of partnerships were trumpeted as the way forward by delegates. Such was the success of Phase 1 Malta, that a Phase 2 should be arracnged quickly to maintain momentum. We took this initiative and immediately set out plans for an event to be staged in the heart of China’s commercial present and future.

Shanghai
The venue for East Meets West event is,Shanghai. China’s largest city typifies the fast accelerating economy and prosperity, a 21st century city that buzzes 24 hours a day. From a distance, the skyline is breathtaking, with monuments of steel and glass, scraping the sky and symbolically reaching out to the world to take notice and do business with this country of great change and growth.Close up it is a hub of humanity, of noise, sights, smells and sensations stimulating the senses and etching an indelible mark in the memory banks. The city is rapidly developing into an ultramodern metropolis, and it is striking to see modern buildings near ancient Buddhist temples, traditional tea houses neighbouring Starbuck’s. In every respect, Shanghai represents China’s outlook of the future, an ancient and illustrious heritage, and a burning desire to be at the forefront of future empire building – a most fitting venue for East Meets West, to bring healthcare and associated businesses from both east and west together, to explore the many and varied opportunities of enterprise and partnership.

How will the event work?
Healthcare International has found that within this globally diverse industry, leaders learn from leaders. The traditional lecture and Seminar format is used as a starting place for the event, however. Although most events stop at this we take the management “experience” presentation, a stage further with the introduction of roundtable discussions designed by industry leaders and chaired by some of the finest facilitators in the market, one-to-one meetings and boardroom-style sessions. East Meets West has been designed to provide as many networking and subsequent meeting opportunities as possible throughout the event, giving you true ROI on your time investment. Our three level approach to the delivery of information (exhibition, conference and face to face opportunities) allows you to achieve in three days what may take months.

The Seminars

Seminar programme will feature presentations from industry leaders, poyors, buyers and industry analysts. These will then lead into breakout groups. You will gain one-to-one and roundtable opportunities to progress the discussions further.

Phase Two – Shanghai
